Pause for thought - lessons learned and tunes rocked

I've made it 'Frisco. Took a few pictures along the way.

A useful time to pause and take stock on the last 2000 miles or so.

Things I have learned so far:

• If you are a man of a certain age, you pull your white socks alllll the way up
• Corners are usually hobbled with a speed limit at least half that which could actually be employed
• Most truckers also have two dogs in the cab with them
• Your truck can never be too big
• Sometimes walking sideways or backwards up a dune is easier than walking fowards
• Sometimes it's worth turning around to see where you've been
• Most American drivers really don't like corners
• Following your nose rather than a rigid plan is good

Random Tunes on Shuffle at the right time in the right place:

With 16,000 odd tracks available on an iPod set to shuffle, sooner or later the right tune comes at the right time. So far I've had 

• Small Faces, Stay With Me coming down Wolf Creek pass
• Excerpts from Mozart's Le nozze di Figaro coming down out of Saguache into the basin before Great Dunes Park
• The Cardigans, Lovefool coming up out of Silverton
• Queen, A Kind Of Magic descending from Black Bear pass.
• Chemical Brothers, Life Is Sweet , going down US141 10 miles north of Naturita
• Primal Scream, Loaded crossing Utah lake beds
• The Orb, Little Fluffy Clouds in Nevada when there were
• Eurthymics, When Tomorrow Comes (Remastered Version) as the sun went down in Utah whilst hunting a place to sleep
• Eddie & The Hot Rods, Do Anything You Wanna Do around Lake Tahoe

Special mention to Zero 7's album Simple Things . It seems to have a unique ability to be perfect for anytime or location from a rainy neon soaked night in Denver to sunset over the plains of Nevada.
